What is counselling?
Counselling is a 50 minute session in which you the client are given a safe environment to talk and express how you may be feeling about a particular issue, yourself or just a way of being that you are uncomfortable with.
How is the service provided?
The initial consultation is a chance for us to discuss what you are looking for and the techniques that I use to assist with this. A contract is agreed in which we discuss confidentiality, regular reviews, and fees. You may want to set particular goals such as increasing your self-esteem or decreasing your work stress.
How many sessions do I need to have?
We would contract for 6 sessions and this would be reviewed. The average amount of sessions is 12. This can vary on the issues, and the individual.
How do I know if it is ‘working’?
This is a personal question and there may be obvious ways in which you can tell it is ‘working’ such as feeling more positive or personal relationships improve. It is important to acknowledge that initially you may feel worse as you are addressing issues which you have been able to ‘mask’ for some time or if you are becoming more confident, people who are used to you the way you were may take time to adjust.
How much will it cost?
The initial consultation is free, and this is when fees will be discussed. I do have a set of sliding scale fees (from £20-£40) based on income but this is down to individual circumstances such as if you have been out of work for some time, or going through a divorce.
